Dynasty and Keeper Rules

Dynasty and Keeper Rules Addendum

Dynasty and keeper formats take most of the same rules, but there are some modifications needed for the multi-season aspect. Between the two, only the specifics of how players are drafted and held varies.

Each section number refers back to our standard rules and explains what you should be different. To call out the difference between the two, dynasty specific changes are in orange and keeper specific are in green.

2. Entries, Fees and Prizes

Fees should be paid a full season in advance, with managers paying for two years at start up. Managers are also required to pay for the year that any draft pick is traded.

3. Rosters, Scoring and Settings

Dynasty

Players are held on rosters from season to season without penalty or disadvantage.

Keeper

Each manager may retain 0-3 players from one season to the next. Each player is assigned a draft value, which is their most recent drafted round plus two rounds. To keep a player into the next season the manager must spend the draft value round for that player. E.g. If a player is drafted in the seventh round this year, their manager must use their fifth round pick on the player next season.

  • If a manager wants to hold two players with the same round value, they must spend the appropriate round and the next lowest round for which they have a pick. Using the above example, if the manager wants to hold two players with fifth round value they would also need to spend their fourth round pick. This also means that only one player with first round value can be kept.
  • If a manager has traded away the appropriate round, they may hold a player with their next lowest available pick.
  • An undrafted player holds a value of the number of total rounds in the draft plus one. Should a player be drafted and then picked up, their round value is the average of total rounds +1 and their original draft value.
  • Round value never goes lower than one, meaning that a manager can hold a single player indefinitely, but it costs their first round pick every year.
  • Players must make all keeper selections one week before the start of the draft, whichever way the commissioner deems appropirate (typically in app).

4. The Draft

Dynasty

As all players are held season to season, there is no need for a full draft and instead a rookie draft will be implemented as follows.

  • Roster limit is temporarily expanded by 5 bench positions.
  • During the draft managers select rookie picks and, in some cases, free agents.
  • The draft is five rounds long.
  • All else proceeds as normal.
  • Before the start of the regular season, managers must cut five total players and roster size returns to normal size.

Keeper

The draft proceeds like redraft except players are held at their round value and managers do not draft additional players with the picks utilized.

5. Transactions

A waiver wire system works here as well, but we strongly recommend a FAAB system for dynasty and keeper as follows.

Each manager is given $100 FAAB dollars at the start of the draft, which may be traded with other managers. Their main purpose is to bid on players from thew waiver wire, where the highest bid rosters the player. Ties are broken by waiver priority and $0 bids are allowed.

You also need to consider whether your free agency system should run year-round, or only during the season.

Dynasty

Unless limited by your platform, trades should be allowed to resume after the championship game.
